Holly Marie Combs was born on 3 December 1972 in San Diego, California. She is the daughter of David Combs and Lauralei (nee Berckhem). Her parents were too young at the time of her birth; Mother was only fifteen and her father was merely seventeen years old. Her parents separated after two years of their marriage. She remained with her mother who had to live at different homes. She moved to New York, at the age of seven along with her mother. When she turned twelve, her mother re-married, bringing her a stepfather.

From the age of 15, whenever she felt nervous she smoked. She left the habit soon after her first pregnancy. She studied in New York at the Beekman Hill Elementary and then at The Professional Children School of Acting. She married twice, the first marriage with Brian ‘Travis’ Smith did not last longer than four years, 1993-1997. Then she re-married David Donoho. The couple has two sons, Finley Arthur Donoho and Riley Edward Donoho. She has four tattoos engraved on her body.

She started her career with minor roles in late 1980’s in various films like ‘Born on the Fourth Of July’ (1989) and ‘Sweet Hearts Dance’ (1988). Earlier she had appeared in an un-credited role in ‘Walls of Glass’ (1985). She got a major acting debut in ‘Picket Fences’, a drama series in 1992. The drama and her role in it were critically appraised. This boosted her career in acting. She appeared in ‘Simple Men’ and ‘Dr. Giggles’ in 1992. She auditioned for ‘Charmed‘ along with her friend Shannen Doherty for the role of “Prue Halliwell“. Her friend had auditioned for the role of “Piper Halliwell“, but they exchanged the roles due to sheer destiny. She also became the producer of the series ‘Charmed‘ in its fifth season, along with Alyssa Milano.

She was seen in the films like ‘Chain of Desire’, ‘A Reason to Believe‘, ‘Vector‘ and ‘Triangle‘. She has appeared on the TV for ‘Relativity‘ and ‘Mistresses‘.
